Sightings
The floods 12 weeks ago have brought an amazing number of migratory birds into the area. On one trip in early February we spotted 3 American bitterns and some stunning purple gallinules; always a treat! Great blue herons are on their nests, and we are actually hearing chicks in one location. Their upturned beaks should be visible any day. We have been watching groups of manatees feeding north of Blue Spring on many of our trips, which make December, January and February wonderful months on the river! Young deer have also been spotted on some of our afternoon trips.
Lately we have seen coots and common moorhens, and bald eagles have become much more active. In addition, the cooler nights are bringing the alligators and turtles out of the water to warm in the sun. It's a great time to take a Blue Heron River Tour!
Hope to see you on the river,
